For each strain handed over by customers the team of the pilot plant develops a suitable production process. In this way all wishes concerning the used raw materials and methods can be considered in close cooperation with the customer. If possible already here standard raw materials, allergen-free media and easily transferable methods are used. As the plant is equal in all details to the production plant, an easy process upscaling is possible afterwards.

Apart from the performance of first growth trials in shaking flasks the entire analytics of the pilot plant is conducted in the process technology laboratory. The modernly equipped laboratory with its own culture media preparation, sample preparation and a cleanroom with sterile workbenches for microbiological analyses also serves for screening new strains with improved characteristics. Furthermore, chemical and microbiological analyses can be performed in order to answer customer-specific questions.
